83 % VOTE YES

An overwhelming majority of General Staff have voted YES to endorse the making of the new UNE General Staff & ELC Teachers Collective Agreement 2009-2012.

This is despite a fervent AND NEGATIVE CAMPAIGN AGAINST the Agreement.

Jen Mitchell, UNE President says “The outstanding vote is a vindication of the CPSU strategy of listening to and campaigning around the needs and wants of members at UNE. Every step of the way the CPSU was guided by our members and every action we took was sanctioned by our members.”

Your new Agreement delivers what are arguably the BEST CONDITIONS FOR GENERAL STAFF IN THE SECTOR.

With this Agreement YOU WILL SET THE BENCHMARK FOR:

RedTickLowRes  The reintroduction of limits on the use of fixed term contracts
RedTickLowRes  Long service leave for casuals
 RedTickLowRes  Union rights
 RedTickLowRes  Uncapped sick Leave
 RedTickLowRes  5 weeks annual leave
RedTickLowRes  Fully paid Shutdown provisions (including Christmas)
 RedTickLowRes  30% On-Call allowance

“When this Agreement is made not only will it deliver significant benefits to general staff it will also place the final nail in the coffin of the Howard Government’s WorkChoices laws in the university sector”.

“The reason the Agreement was supported so well by all general staff was because it DELIVERS SUCH GOOD CONDITIONS. We learnt early to base all our initiatives on what members told us they wanted and what we believed could be implemented and achieved. We never once sought to impose ideas from above. Finally we knew we had to be HONEST. Staff would always see through lies and propaganda.” said Andrew Holland, CPSU Senior Industrial Officer.
