Contracts & Related Matters
Negotiations Continued Regarding – Employment Contracts.
Discussed at the recent ACU Enterprise Bargaining Meeting was:
• Section 6 – Employment Matters
A large number of grammatical changes were made by the University which, after careful review, were mostly agreed to by your CPSU Bargaining Team.
Fixed Term contracts were discussed at length, in particular with a view to re- strengthening job security protections removed by the Howard Government in the last Agreement.
CPSU is seeking an over-all approach to job security for General Staff, focussing on Continuing Employment, then unrestricted Fixed Term contracts, with a conversion option to ongoing, and finally Casual Employment, with Casual Conversion as the safety measure. ACU is still considering their response.
Work Life Balance Arrangements/Assistance has been retained, and is being considered as part of the required Individual Flexibility Arrangements.
Transfer Allowance was rejected by ACU in the first instance. Your CPSU Bargaining Team will consider alternative clauses based on the University’s response and resubmit a clause for a new Allowance.
Separation from Employment, including Resignations – This will remain at 2 weeks for General Staff, if Academics agreed to return to their previous 6 month notice period. Abandonment of Employment has now been increased to apply after 10 days absence without explanation, up from 5 days. Summary Dismissal for General Staff (for Serious Misconduct) now requires ACU (if they choose) to only suspend a General Staff member on full pay, a key CPSU claim.
Separation for Medical Reasons has been adjusted & streamlined, making it easier to navigate & understand for both staff and the University. ACU agreed with the CPSU claim to ensure that if a staff member is able to return to work within the next 12 months, that they will be entitled to return to their position.
