SCU Efficiency Review

As many of you will be aware, the VC has commissioned a review of service provision throughout the university.  Ken Burke, ex-NTEU president and ex-Director of Human Resources at SCU is conducting the review.

Consultation with staff and the opportunity to contribute and participate has already begun.

The pattern so far is for discussions to happen at a relatively senior level with the expectation that information will be passed on to affected staff, and, presumably, feedback passed back to the review.

The basis for this review is to identify potential efficiencies in common service areas.  The Corporate Services Director has advised the CPSU that the review is not about redundancies.

Issues raised by CPSU on behalf of members

The CPSU raised the issue of transparency and effective communication over this review at the most recent JCF meeting.

The CPSU has also raised issues that included:

• What shared services models are being looked at?
• What is the timeframe?
• Will there be information about the review for staff?

We have been assured that the process will be clearly communicated to staff.

At this stage it's diffucult to be confident that intentions are completely benign; the university community as a whole has had no further information since the VC's brief email announcing the review.

In the meantime the CPSU will continue  to represent members' interests.
