University of Wollongong Bargaining Report

WollongongBackboneBanner

Progress is Developing with New EB

The CPSU met with the University on Wednesday 22nd February 2010.

Discussions sought to finalise Part One of the agreement. The majority of Part One is finalised with only two outstanding issues.

Staff Consultation and Representation – formerly the Union Rights Clause.
This is to be discussed at the next meeting.

Joint Consultative Committee
This is in the most part resolved. There may be a few minor changes if any new issues arise.

Dispute Resolution
The principals of this clause are mostly agreed with the University agreeing to the CPSU claim to provide enforceability through the Fair Work Australia, the new Industrial Commission. While we expect this clause to be finalised at the next agreement, parts of this clause depend on how the rest of the negotiations continue.

Most of Part Two has been agreed, other than the General Staff Pay Rise! The clauses that are being discussed are:

  •  Incremental Progression, including Accelerated Progression
  •  Promotion and Reclassification
  •  Superannuation

The CPSU is seeking to remind General Staff of the ability of Accelerated Progression. Discussions are continuing on the full inclusion of General Staff Reclassification to ensure the current simply, fair & appeal able process of classification is maintained and enforceable.

Your Bargaining Team wants to make sure we all get the best outcome for General Staff. Please support your Union by asking colleagues to Join the CPSU!

General Staff deserve the right to decide for ourselves our own conditions of employment!

The CPSU Bargaining Team negotiates with the University of Wollongong, based on the Focus Groups with members and CPSU Log of Claims endorsed by members.

Both sides negotiating make agreements on each clause on an “In Principal” and “Without Prejudice” basis, as we are representing others. The CPSU represents our members at UOW, and any “In Principal” Agreement is subject to your approval. The University representatives make “In Principal” Agreements, subject to approval by the Vice Chancellor.

Please review our progress and provide feedback & comments to your local delegate. We will be holding CPSU Member Meetings as negotiations progress to update Members and ask for support, comments, discussion and feedback. These provide us with the tools we need to make sure CPSU Members achieve the best outcome possible for General Staff.
