UTS ENTERPRISE BARGAINING CAMPAIGN BEGINS

UTS ENTERPRISE BARGAINING CAMPAIGN BEGINS

April 30, 2009

UTSBackboneBanner

The CPSU has commenced our enterprise bargaining 6 (EB6) Campus Backbone campaign at UTS. Every three years your rights at work are renegotiated between the CPSU and the University. Through the campaign we will campaign hard to make sustainable gains in your terms and conditions of employment, and to reclaim rights removed under the previous Federal Government.

As a democratic union we ensure that our strategy is locally directed to achieve what members want and need. That is why the first stage of our campaign for better conditions at UTS is to hold Focus Groups of our members. These professional Focus Groups will be held around five key topics outlined in our Discussion Paper which you would have recently received in the mail. These topics are:

1. Protecting our terms and conditions
2. Making sure we will be listened to
3. Improved pay and superannuation
4. Ensuring we are treated with respect
5. Allowing us to balance work and life

If you’re not a member and would like to have your say, simply contact your CPSU delegate (details below) and sign up to the union – then you will be able to sign up to a Focus Group.

From the Focus Groups, we will develop a log of claims for members to endorse.

This will occur at the CPSU Members Log of Claims endorsement Meeting which will take place at:

Time:   1 – 2pm
Date:   Wednesday 8th June 2009
Location:   Lecture Theatre CB02.04.29

Following this meeting the CPSU bargaining team will serve our log of claims on the University and then let the negotiations begin.

WORKCHOICES IS NEARLY DEAD

The Fair Work Act will come into effect on 1 July 2009. This means that the next enterprise agreement at UTS will NOT BE a Work Choices agreement. This is a great win for staff at UTS and across Australia. The right to collective representation, protections against outsourcing and many other conditions are no longer prohibited. BUT this doesn’t mean they will automatically be restored back into the agreement. To do this we need a strong and active membership. To fight for these rights to be restored, get involved in your CPSU Campaign Team.
