BARGAINING BEGINS

Mark Christopher (Lead Negotiator), Rosa Bow (Bargaining Coordinator), Greg Hampshire (Communications Officer) and Andrew Holland (Senior Industrial Officer) met for two hours with UTS HRU representatives for the 1st EB6 meeting on Thursday 6th August 2009.

UTS was represented by Peter Fox (Manager, Workplace Relations and Policy), Frank Young (Senior Workplace Relations Specialist) and Lisa Carroli (Senior Workplace Relations Policy Specialist).

Your bargaining team walked through your Log of Claims document and a bargaining resources letter for the benefit of all parties present at the bargaining table. The CPSU clarified the key points from both documents. UTS provided brief without prejudice responses to our comments and will clarify their position at future meetings.

It was agreed that HRU would write to the supervisors of your negotiators outlining the resources allocated by the University for this round of bargaining.

The parties present agreed to table all subsequent documents for inclusion by no later than 5pm three working days for the following meeting.

UTS indicated that Professor Peter Booth may attend a future meeting to brief the Union on the current and future financial position of the University.

Future EB6 meetings were finalised up until the end of September 2009. The meetings will normally be for 2 hours. The agreed dates are as follows:

1. Monday 24th August 2009 2:30 pm +
2. Thursday 3rd September 2009 2:00 pm +
3. Monday 14th September 2009 2:00 pm +
4. Monday 28th September 2009 2:00 pm +

Yours in Union,
Mark, Rosa, Andrew and Greg.

Recently we have been asked why the Campus Backbone?

The backbone symbolises an interlocking agenda; recognising that General Staff are the axis around which the University functions and recognising the central cohesive source of support and stability that the General Staff Union provides. It’s about fortitude and determination and empowering General Staff to stand up for their rights at work and progressive values.

Remind a friend they are the backbone of the CSU and ask them to join the CPSU.
