UNE Members' Bargaining Report 5

General Staff bargaining cancelled
Unfortunately the General Staff bargaining sessions which were scheduled for 26 November and 1 & 2 December were cancelled because the NTEU were unable to attend as their industrial officer could not make it up from Sydney.
It is very disappointing that General Staff bargaining was cancelled, as we have made some significant progress on a number of important claims and the loss of three days of bargaining will unnecessarily delay achieving good outcomes for General Staff.
Further, this may jeopardise the possibility of a pay increase being negotiated before Christmas 2008.
Andrew Holland, your senior industrial officer, nevertheless flew to Armidale and, with the delegates on your bargaining team (Marney Tilley, Kylie Day and Jen Mitchell), worked hard over the two days developing responses to a number of management claims, including workplace change, unsatisfactory performance, misconduct and classification.
We also asked the other parties if one of the scheduled academic bargaining days next week could be used to make up for some of the three days lost for General Staff. The University has agreed but unfortunately the NTEU has declined the request.
