Your Bargaining Team Update

Enterprise Bargaining at Macquarie began on 9 June. As promised, to keep you well informed throughout this round of bargaining we will send a brief report after each session. This is important as whilst your Team negotiates on your behalf, the final decision on changes to the Enterprise Agreement is yours.

As endorsed by CPSU members, your bargaining team is Lead Negotiator Greg Stark, Communications Officer Lachlan Morgan, Bargaining Team Coordinator Phoebe Dangerfield, and a CPSU Industrial Officer.

Your contribution to your Log of Claims makes it the guide for the CPSU team throughout negotiations.

What the University Said

The University provided an unclear response to the CPSU claim for defined time for CPSU bargaining team members to prepare for bargaining meetings. There was also a difference in the response given to academic bargaining representatives for their preparation time. The University will provide a revised response.

The University proposed to change ‘general staff’ to ‘professional staff’ to engender more respect from academic staff. We suggested that career development, future pathways and other strategies would better promote practical respect and consideration. This will be negotiated in future meetings.

The University proposed inserting clauses to allow cashing out of long service leave and annual leave.

After providing a presentation on the CPSU Log of Claims, the parties went through the current Agreement to decide on the sections that require change and those to carry forward. The following clauses will carry forward unchanged:

Intellectual Freedom, Instrument of Appointment, Supported Wage System, Meal Breaks, Washing Time, Penalty Rates, Call Back Arrangements, Work Rosters, Outside Work, Intellectual Property, Pre-Retirement Contracts, Termination on the Grounds of Ill-Health, Resignation.

Discussion moved on to job classification and the classification and appeals process. As outlined in our Log of Claims we committed to table a clause providing a better classification process, and will investigate the possibility of broadbanding (limited flexibility between HEW levels to encourage career development).

What’s Next?

The CPSU committed to table clauses on Career Development, Classification, Fixed Term Employment, and General Staff workloads.
