Your CPSU Bargaining Team update

Your bargaining team and the University last met on 28 and 29 May 2009.

The parties agreed to our suggestion to walk through the current agreement and our log of claims and try to establish which claims would require the most discussion and which could be described as likely to be agreed upon quickly.

We outlined the importance of the comprehensive log of claims that YOU developed and endorsed.

What are our key claims?

PROTECTING OUR TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Improved Job security including the appropriate regulation of casuals and fixed term employment

MAKING SURE WE WILL BE LISTENED TO

Maintain a strong and independent voice for general staff through achieving a separate general staff agreement.

IMPROVED PAY AND SUPERANNUATION

Achieve a pay increase to match your professional skills.

ENSURING WE ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT

Career progression for general staff including Broad banding, improvements to job evaluation & workload.

ALLOWING US TO BALANCE WORK AND LIFE

Improved leave including Christmas leave, Bereavement leave, Purchased leave and no forfeiture of annual leave.

It was agreed that salary rates, hours of work, disciplinary procedures, and workload are expected to take some discussion. Hopefully the University will look positively on our leave claims. The University has also presented suggestions for discussion.

What is the University saying?

The University wants to look at changes to leave loading, changes to the way you can take long service leave, increasing the number of leave without pay days that will not count as service, and introducing suspension without pay for General Staff.

YOUR FEEDBACK IS IMPORTANT. If you have any feedback or suggestions please contact Irene Evans, CPSU Lead Negotiator.

Where to now?

The next meeting is scheduled for 18/19 June 2009 in Bathurst. The agenda items are: 35 hour week; Reclassification; and Workload.

Increased Collective Bargaining Power = Better Conditions & Pay

Recently we have been asked why the Campus Backbone?

The backbone symbolises an interlocking agenda; recognising that General Staff are the axis around which the University functions and recognising the central cohesive source of support and stability that the General Staff Union provides. It’s about fortitude and determination and empowering General Staff to stand up for their rights at work and progressive values.

Remind a friend they are the backbone of the CSU and ask them to join the CPSU.
