Members Bargaining Report 5

Members Bargaining Report 5

September 21, 2009

UNSWBackboneBanner

Bargaining between the UNSW and the CPSU was cancelled on Tuesday 15 September. This was due to the academics union taking industrial action the following day.

The next meeting will be on Tuesday 29 September and we assume that after that meeting General Staff negotiations will continue as before.

Your bargaining team has been preparing as usual for the next meeting, and have continued to caucus with the other Bargaining Representatives, putting forward our members’ views.

Up for discussion at next
General Staff Enterprise Bargaining Meeting

  • Dispute Resolution
  • Managing Change
  • Carers Leave
  • Defence Leave
  • Parental Leave

We are also confident that overtime and workloads will be finalised at the meeting.

The 2009 Love Our Leave Survey
Your input & feedback is almost on the bargaining table!

The CPSU is preparing to also table clauses that arose from the Love Our Leave survey (we will provide detailed feedback to members about the survey results soon). A big thank you to all who contributed, your views have really given your Bargaining Team some really useful information in support of the collective priorities. These clauses are likely to be (there may be some additions/changes):

  • Improved Bereavement Leave
  • Improved Study Leave
  • Domestic Violence Leave
  • Wellbeing Leave
  • Moving House Leave
  • Purchased Leave

We are finalising these clauses and would LOVE to get any final feedback from members. If you have anything more to add, or any strong concerns, contact CPSU Organiser Blake Stephens.

While we will attempt to accommodate individual concerns, any contentious clauses will need to be put to the whole membership for a final democratic determination.

CPSU Campaign for Paid Shutdown Leave @ UNSW

Every CPSU member should have received a pack of Christmas Cards for the Card Petition in support of Paid Shutdown Leave. This claim is for the University to provide General Staff (and Academic Members of the University too) with University Leave for any University Shutdown. If you haven’t received yours, please contact Blake Stephens or Adrianne Harris.

Demonstrating a strong support for this claim is really important. We will be tabling every single card that is sent back in support of this claim, and taking photos of it to send back to you! So please ask your colleagues to sign a card in support of Paid Shutdown Leave. You can ask both General Staff and Academic Staff to sign a Petition Card, and the Negotiation Team will provide the Academics’ Bargaining Representatives with signed cards we receive from Academic staff to support any claim they may have in relation to paid shutdown leave. We will also provide the AMWU delegates with Cards signed by Technical General Staff at the Australian Defence Force Academy.

CPSU Working Group for Protecting Annual Leave

We will be starting a CPSU Working Group to develop proposals for CPSU members to consider and provide feedback on, regarding improved protection for General Staff Annual Leave. Members who nominate for this will be provided with a full industrial briefing on current/previous legislation & industrial instruments, other examples that are current & some suggestions to start with.

The time involved will be around 1 hour per week, for about 4-6 weeks. There may also be the occasional homework task! Please contact Blake Stephens or Adrianne Harris if you would like to nominate.
