Members Bargaining Report 4 September 2009

Your bargaining team met with the University on Thursday the 3rd of September 2009. In-principle agreement was reached on the following issues:Personal Leave This was discussed a few meetings ago, but was agreed to in principle by all parties. Classifications The CPSU had already given in-principle support to this issue. The classifications policy will come in to effect immediately – it won’t need to wait till the whole agreement is signed and sealed. There are significant improvements to the process, including the right of a general staff employee to initiate their own reclassification and a redesign of the classification and review committees. Performance Management and Review Management made some minor wording changes to the CPSU draft clause and in-principle agreement was reached Still Being NegotiatedPremature celebration! We announced in our last EB report that agreement had been reached on Intellectual Freedom. Some late changes mean this clause is once more under discussion. Negotiations continue on other issues including Indigenous Employment, Dispute Resolution, Probation, Managing Unsatisfactory Performance, Misconduct, Union Rights, General Staff Workloads, and Purpose of Agreement. The CPSU tabled clauses on Occupational Health and Safety, and Incremental Progression. There is some difference in several clauses over union rights to represent staff. The CPSU will work on suitable wording to resolve this issue at the next meeting. What’s Next? The next EB meeting is scheduled for Thursday 17/09/2009. At this meeting we will be hopefully be able to resolve many of the outstanding issues currently on the table.
